For many local and overseas players, performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) plays a crucial part in the progress of their careers. The IPL cricket game has shaped the future of successful players today. Players like Shane Watson, Andre Russell, and David Warner have built their names internationally through their success in IPL cricket. Who are these players and why is the IPL a make or break for them?

• AB de Villers (ABD)

ABD aspires to play in the World Cup, which means he would have to return from retirement. Since the top player’s departure, his fans have missed him a lot in the field, and his comeback might as well be a pleasant surprise. The player, however, has been out of the game for over a year, knows that his return will not be all rosy.  He needs to get back in shape and pot in all he has to prove his worth. One of his most crucial projects should be IPL cricket. IPL 2020 will give him a chance to prove his form and worth for the World Cup.

Chris is between a rock and a hard place. The player, who has cheated retirement and says he wants to play until he is 45, is still unclear about his future with the West Indies as he waits for selection to the World Cup. As much as he has termed himself as ‘the greatest player,’ he has not played for the West Indies team since August 2019. It is his performance in the IPL cricket that will help him prove himself and land juicy deals across the globe. He cannot afford to lose.

Chris Lynn was recently locked out of the Australian Cricket Team, and he also agreed that he had not performed well enough to warrant that admission. The player is yet to make a mark on the international stage. Nevertheless, the player passed the auction for the biggest team in the IPL cricket, Mumbai Indians (MI), which gives him a good chance to prove his worth. Even so, the player is likely to kill it because the batting unit at MI is stronger and he will play more freely. This season could present opportunities for Lynn to shine if he is well prepared.

Chris Morris’s future with the Proteas team is at stake, thanks to the winless runs that the team has had. The player has also suffered injuries that have put him in an even further poor form. Even with these developments, the player still has hopes of reviving himself and heading to the World Cup. The RCB paid a handsome price for him in the IPL cricket, so he still has a chance to bring on board some excellent bowling skills and save the RCB team. His success could see him selected among South African’s National Team to head to the World Cup.
