Since the first generation of XIAOMI MIX came out, the era of full screen has begun. The screen proximity of our mobile phones has gone from 16: 9 to 19.5: 9 today. Up to now, the full screen of the mobile phone is one of the important parameters to be considered.
IPhone X publishes OLED full screen for the first time to surprise the audience. This is the first time Apple has adopted OLED screens. The screen looks good except for a long strip with a width of about 5 mm removed from the top. The disadvantage is its low yield and high price.
We often hear manufacturers say what kind of packaging technology they have used when publishing mobile phones. Such as COF, COP encapsulation technology. What is packaging technology?
The difference between COF and COP
IPhoneX uses Samsung Flexible OLED unique COP packaging process. Its back plate is not glass, and the material used is the same as the FPC. On the basis of COG, the manufacturer bends the backplane backward, further reducing the thickness. The screen of COP packaging process can be borderless on all sides.
Since the light emitted by OLED does not need to pass through polarizer, its brightness is better than that of LCD screen. OLED adopts the principle of self-luminous, which reduces the power consumption of OLED compared with LCD. When the screen shows pure black, the LED does not emit light, and black is purer. The visual angle of OLED is much higher than that of LCD screen. The IPS technology used by Apple on LCD screens has made the visual angle perfect.
OLED flexible screens can be made thinner. The cost of OLED components is between 120 and 130 US dollars per unit. The LCD panel costs 45-55 US dollars. There is a reason why iPhone X is priced so high.
COF process
The Note8 published by Samsung is much square than the S8 series. The bottom of it retains the SPen handwriting pen unique to the Note series. The screen size has reached 6.3 inches. Samsung Note8 screen follows the 18.5: 9 ratio full screen design of S8 series, which is the largest screen in the history of Note series. Its screen percentage is higher than that of S8 series.
Differences between COG and COF
Samsung Note8, a full-screen mobile phone, does not need to change its internal structure. One thing people need to consider is how to narrow the “border of the screen”. The Samsung Note8 screen has a border. This part is mainly FPC and control chip. Samsung Note8 packaging uses COF technology instead of traditional COG packaging technology. COF technology places the chips on the glass backplane on the FPC of the screen. This can be placed at the bottom of the screen. This leaves 1.5 mm more screen space than COG.
Samsung Note8, as flagship machine, uses COF packaging process. Its four corners of the screen are cut by CNC. It is difficult to bend the screen glass itself and fit it with the front panel of the mobile phone.
Thanks to the popularization of packaging technology, most smart phones on the market use corresponding packaging technology. For example, HONOR smartphones, Samsung smartphones, etc. Packaging technology is becoming more and more common. The proportion of our mobile phone screens is increasing. There will be a 100% screen ratio in the future.
